Extending Grace supports families caring for youth who have lost a parent to gun or domestic violence. We provide healing-centered care, essentials, and community—so no one carries this burden alone.

Our Mission:

Extending Grace is a nonprofit organization committed to supporting families who’ve stepped in to care for youth impacted by gun and domestic violence. We provide healing-centered programs that address the emotional, financial, and practical needs of both the children and the households now raising them. Our work is grounded in compassion, dignity, and the belief that every child—and every caregiver—deserves support, stability, and the tools to thrive after trauma.

Caregiver Support & Counseling: Trauma-informed therapy access and caregiver support groups

  • Youth & Household Essentials: School supplies, clothing vouchers, transportation, grocery and gas cards, laundry assistance

  • Educational & Life Skills: Tutoring and mentorship for youth, financial and life skills workshops for caregivers

  • Community Engagement & Advocacy: Awareness campaigns, school and faith-based partnerships, and caregiver advocacy

Oakland Stats Section

  • In 2024, Oakland recorded 86 homicides—each one leaving children and caregivers to pick up the pieces.

  • Caregivers—often grandparents or relatives—step in with little support.

  • Extending Grace fills the gap with trauma-informed, practical, and financial aid.
